Dis[connect]: Connect People to Places

This session was presented as part of Future Cities Canada: #UnexpectedSolutions.

Robert Nellams, Director, Seattle Center; Michelle Boone, Chief Program and Civic Engagement Officer, Navy Pier; and Anita Gaffney, Executive Director, Stratford Festival

Placemaking in third places has been at the centre of building and revitalising urban centres globally, and key to creating the spaces communities need to come together. What happens to these spaces when we need to be apart? Bringing together experts in placemaking and the cultural sector from across North America, this panel examines how third spaces have changed due to the current pandemic, how placemaking and cultural programming has adapted to face this. In turn, the panel looks at how the sector must continue to change and innovate to maintain and grow the relevance of third spaces as part of diverse and engaging urban landscapes.
