The Life, Death and Rebirth of Main Street

This session was presented as part of Future Cities Canada: #UnexpectedSolutions.

Dionne Baux, Director of UrbanMain, a program of the National Main Street Center (NMSC); Jay-Ann Gilfoy, CEO of the Vancity Community Investment Bank (VCIB); Ken Greenberg OC, Principal of Greenberg Consultants; and Mary Rowe, President and CEO, Canadian Urban Institute

Iconic symbols of urban life, our main streets are where we shop, eat, play and support small businesses. Yet the store closures, boarded up buildings and clearance signs hanging in storefront windows indicate the unprecedented impact that COVID-19 has had on our main streets. In this session, we discuss the importance of our main streets and the economic potential that their revitalization has for reviving and supporting sustainable communities.
