The Smart Cities Challenge is a pan-Canadian competition open to all municipalities, local or regional governments, and Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis and Inuit). The Challenge empowers communities to adopt a smart cities approach to improve the lives of their residents through innovation, data and connected technology.

Challenge statement

After years of out-migration and economic decline, our community will rebuild its once thriving economy by empowering young people through technology-enabled intergenerational knowledge transfer, leadership development, innovation and entrepreneurship in order to reduce out-migration, promote economic development, lower rates of unemployment, and reduce poverty for future generations.
