Leveraging Transit for Affordable Housing: an Opportunity to Rethink our Silos

This session was presented as part of Future Cities Canada: #UnexpectedSolutions.

Matthew Kelling, Planner, Urban Strategies

Housing affordability and transit are deeply interconnected, yet their planning and delivery are rarely aligned. With billions of dollars in transit being delivered across Canada, are we appropriately leveraging this public investment? We believe there is an opportunity to rethink the status quo, broadening the impact of infrastructure dollars and generating new affordable housing in our communities. This presentation is based upon the work of the Transit-Oriented Affordable Housing Solutions Lab, part of the National Housing Strategy’s Solutions Labs initiative funded by CMHC.
